How to Find Real Rest in God In This Busy World

In today’s busy world, there is a constant hustle. We are so busy with our to-do list that we are forgetting our true purpose and lacking rest in God. Instead of progressing as we should, we are becoming unproductive and restless. As a result, our mental health suffers and all this causes us to put God on the backburner.

Tips To Finding Real Rest In God

Rest Tip #1 Establish a Sabbath Routine Establishing a Sabbath routine of reading the Bible

Set aside one day a week for rest, reflection, and rejuvenation which will dramatically help you find rest in God. Making a point to do this not only aligns with biblical principles but works to your benefit as you find rest in God and learn a new beneficial habit. It may seem hard at first, but as you continue you will start to reap the beauty that you sow.

As mentioned in Genesis 2:23 this is a biblical principle. Using the Bible as our guiding light ensures that we follow the right path and stop allowing the business of the world to drag us down. “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day, he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done” (Genesis 2:23, NIV).

Make it a point to choose one day in the week to avoid work, digital devices, or extracurricular activities. Instead immerse yourself in relaxation, family time, and scripture reflection. This does not have to be Sunday although Sunday would be a great starting point we take the example of Jesus.

Rest Tip #2 Nature Immersion – God’s Natural Sanctuary

Dancing in God's nature, God's sanctuary

Another great idea to find rest in God is to immerse yourself in nature. Nature grounds us and brings us closer to God’s creation, providing moments of tranquility. As you lean into nature and find quiet times with God you learn to tune out the world and all its distractions.

Here we take to example of David in the Psalms.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:1-3).

There are plenty of ways to immerse yourself in nature you just have to start walking! For example, taking weekly nature walks is a fun, creative way to get started. If you love gardening you can start today getting back to your passion. Just sitting in the park watching you kids play or having a picnic is another way to enjoy God’s playground.

Rest Tip #3 Practice Scriptural Affirmations

Practicing spiritual affirmations

Practicing spiritual affirmations can reframe our mindset and bring inner peace. The world will often train our brains to focus on the negative resulting in a negative mindset and attitude. However, actively seeking out scripture helps retrain our brain to think positively.

Once again we can look to the Psalm for some positive chatter!

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him” (Psalm 23:1-3).

Set out to choose a few scriptural affirmations about rest and peace. Make it a habit to look them up and save them on your phone’s notes or on a handy notepad. This way you can easily get to them. Repeats these scriptural affirmations during moments of stress or as a daily mantra. You’ll be encouraged to do more as you begin to see your mindset shift to positive!

Rest Tip #6 Dive into Music that Elevates the Soul

Listening to Christian music that elevates the soul

Everyone loves music but what kind of music are you listening to? Consider changing the tune of your music of its negative in any way. This can be discouraging and keep us far from God’s peace new song and dance! Hymns and spiritual songs can usher in feelings of peace and rest, driving us away from worldly chaos. Listening to worship music will set you in tune with the Spirit of God and make you feel better.

Scripture affirms that we should be listening to worship songs as we “teach and admonish one another.” As listen to the instruction of scripture we discover peace.

“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts” (Colossians 3:16, NIV).

A fun way to incorporate praise songs into your routine is to find ones you like! Create a playlist of hymns or spiritual songs that resonate well with you. Just push play! Listen during quiet times, drives, or before bed. Before long you’ll be craving the peace that it brings.

Conclusion: Challenge your podcast listeners to reflect on these tips and find ways to begin implementing them today

There are many ways to find rest in God in this busy world! You must take time from your busy day and take some time discovering where you can start. Don’t get overwhelmed with all of them at once. We want to make lasting change here so you must first commit that you’re ready to find rest in God and you’re willing to set other things aside. The world is working against you here but chaos will never bring you joy. Here’s to a newfound peace and joy as we learn to find rest in the joy-giver!
